"I love school so much because I wasn't always allowed to go. My family could not afford the fee, for all of us to attend so only my brothers went to school… and I just stayed home, cooking and cleaning." explains Ghabdho Guul, a young girl from Somalia. "My mother enrolled me in the free school last year. I now walk one hour to and from school every day. I don't mind the walk because every day I learn something new. I want to be a role model for other girls my age too."
Together with Ghabdho Guul, it is worth underlining the role of education in empowering women and girls and the attention that the EU education interventions puts in promoting schooling and retention of girls.
