Setting up reintegration systems in Somalia

hoa_so_migration training.png

Between 14 and 18 May, the EU- IOM Joint Initiative in the Horn of Africa supported the Federal Government of Somalia’s capacity building effort through a training of the Return and Readmission Task Force in Entebbe, Uganda.

A total of 18 officials representing 11 federal ministries under the Task Force and four Federal Member States participated in the training. One of the working sessions covered the EU-IOM Framework Standard Operating Procedures for Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (“Framework SOPs”).

Participants shared their ideas and best practices related to reintegration assistance that could be provided upon return, such as mentorship-based business and financial management training and holistic psychosocial support including recreational activities, counseling on housing, land and property issues, as well as establishment of community cooperatives for savings and loans. These comments and suggestions provided will feed into the adaptation and nationalisation of the Framework SOPs to be validated by the Federal Government of Somalia in the coming months.
