EUTF GrEEn Project supports Fintechs in Ghana

The fintech space in Ghana has undergone significant growth and evolution in the last few years with entrants spanning the business, telecommunication, agriculture, health and financial services sectors among others. While innovation is growing and many more organizations are developing solutions that leverage technology to respond to people’s needs and even more often serve a market niche that is excluded from formal sector, regulatory compliance can prevent these organizations from full scale-up of their business models.

The EUTF funded Boosting Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana (GrEEn) Project implemented by the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) is working with various fintechs to increase access to and usage of financial services for MSMEs, youth and returning migrants in the Ashanti and Western Regions of Ghana. From the lessons gained from the GrEEn Project, it is clear many fintechs struggle to meet the regulatory requirements thus limiting their ability to develop and offer financial solutions to vulnerable groups at the last mile.

A webinar scheduled for Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 11:00 AM GMT, will share lessons learned from the GrEEn Project where UNCDF and legal firm, Eight Geeks @ Law supported fintechs in their compliance processes as well as build the capacity of early start-ups in the fintech ecosystem to help them innovate while complying with the current regulatory framework.
