HoA-SO

The full first quarterly monitoring report for the Horn of Africa region is available, produced by Altai Consulting and thanks to the impressive collaboration of the EUTF HoA implementing partners, who have worked very hard to make this possible. It reports results achieved for 38 projects implemented in the region, focusing on the 41 common EUTF indicators. While much still needs to be done, the first reported results are encouraging: EUTF projects in the region have provided basic services to more than 1.7 million people, more than 34 thousand jobs have been created or facilitated. More than 46 thousand migrants have been protected or assisted and more than 12 thousand people have participated in conflict prevention and peace building activities.

The report provides data on a more granular basis, i.e. by country, project and with disaggregation. Conclusions from the report indicate that the EUTF has so far allowed to:

  • Combine short-term (cash for work, border posts, protection, reinsertion) and long-term approaches (resilience, improved governance, institution building, human rights, etc.)

  • Focus on both host communities and the most vulnerable people who may be likely to migrate, as well as those who have already migrated, be they IDPs, refugees, migrants or even returnees

  • Address issues affecting the youngest population groups via health or education initiatives, the youth most at risk of migrating and / or turning to extremism

  • Promote and develop sustainable economic opportunities and resilience-building practices to give beneficiaries the chance to build a better future in their country rather than risking the dangers of irregular migration

  • Build the structural capacities of local governments and institutional partners to develop long-term solutions that will be handed over to local authorities.
