Protecting migrant women in Libya: Chettou Alhadji

"Being back home and close to own community gives me strength"

Chettou Alhadji is from Niger, she stayed in Libya for 12 years with her family. When she decided to return to her home country, she benefitted from the support under the EU-IOM Joint Initiative for Migrant Protection and Reintegration. She received Voluntary Humanitarian Return (VHR) assistance to return back home together with her four children in August 2018. Thanks to the reintegration assistance she received, Chettou purchased a plot where she built a shelter for her family, and a small solar panel for electricity. She also received school supplies, food and clothes for her four children. Finally, she received supplies to manage a small shop. Her goal is to expand her current activity and own a tribe of goats. She admits every day is a struggle for her to secure needs of her children. Yet, she seems hopeful. In her words “Thanks to the reintegration support, I have managed to secure accommodation and livelihood for my family”.
