The Sudan Ministry of Foreign Affairs held an one-day roundtable on the Zero Draft Plus of the Global Compact on Migration (GCM) on 9 May 2018. The roundtable was part of the Better Migration Management (BMM) Programme and aimed at supporting the Government of Sudan to consolidate its position in the negotiations of the GCM.

The GCM is an agreement negotiated between States that covers all dimensions of international migration in a holistic and comprehensive manner. It is being developed under the auspices of the United Nations and seeks to create a framework for safe, orderly and regular migration across borders. It is envisioned that the GCM will set out a range of principles to improve migration governance, to address the challenges associated with migration, and to strengthen the contribution of migrants to sustainable development. More information on the process and the drafts of the GCM can be found on the official site https://refugeesmigrants.un.org/migration-compact

BMM organised the roundtable to facilitate dialogue on the Zero Draft Plus and provide an opportunity to ministries with migration related portfolios to review the draft and to be able to consolidate Sudan´s position towards it. The roundtable gathered senior representatives from fourteen government institutions, including Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Secretariat of the Sudanese Working Abroad, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Welfare & Social Security, Ministry of International Corporation, Commission for Refugees and the Humanitarian Aid Commission, among others.
