The Youth Empowerment Project (YEP), implemented in The Gambia, is a programme that aims to tackle the root causes of irregular migration by increasing the chances of young people to find a job opportunity and to make an income in their own land.

Through the project, the Gambian youth acquires new skills, entrepreneurship is fostered and employment is created along selected value chains.

Amongst its activities, the project informs its beneficiaries and raises awareness on possibilities for new employment opportunities; since the beginning of the COVID crisis, the YEP project also uses its wide reach on social networks to spread information on preventive measures that need to be taken against COVID infection.

On the 8th of april, the project has launched a poetry challenge that will help to raise awareness on COVID 19, awarding the better video maker who demonstrates its way of staying safe. There is time until the 21/04 to record and submit the video.

This is one of the many initiatives that programmes funded under the EUTF are putting in place to help countries to cope with the new threath and to sensitise population against the risks posed by COVID-19.
