Strengthening Eritrea's National Statistics and Macroeconomic Statistics Systems (SENSS)

This project aimed to strengthen the economic governance capacity of the Government of the State of Eritrea (GSE). The objective was for Eritrea to have a sound, capable, and self-reliant National Statistics System (NSS) by the end of the program. Statistical data formed the foundation for development policy, through which investment and private sector development could be encouraged. Therefore, the program targeted a core issue with an ultimate goal of improving development outcomes for all Eritreans. A robust data collection capacity contributed to the promotion of economic growth and good governance.

The specific objectives of the program were:

  • Improved availability and access to timely, reliable, comprehensive, and high-quality statistics for planning sound economic sectoral policies and development goals.
  • Strengthened cohesion of the NSS, both at the central and local (kebabi/village) levels, and enhanced the institutional and coordination capacities of the National Statistics Office (NSO).
