Uganda is home to the largest refugee population in Africa, primarily consisting of individuals who have fled from South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The country's progressive refugee policies play a crucial role in accommodating this substantial refugee population.
In the Northern West Nile region of Uganda, which witnessed a significant surge in refugee arrivals in the last few years, our objective is to work with the Government of Uganda in a number of sectors benefiting both refugees and host communities. This approach ensures that both refugees and host communities benefit from our efforts, in line with the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework
Our objective is to equip refugees and host communities with essential tools through actions that develop job skills and livelihoods, while also ensuring access to essential services like education and clean water. This multifaceted approach aims to address the complex challenges faced by refugees and their host communities, fostering sustainable integration and coexistence.
In addition to these efforts, we are committed to addressing challenges including climate change, demographic pressures and environmental stresses affecting the lives of both refugees and host communities in refugee-hosting districts in both West Nile and South West Uganda. The primary objectives of these interventions are to combat increased environmental and ecosystems degradation, protect and restore natural resources, enhance sustainable energy access, and bolster local capacity for environment and climate action.
