Masfine, an Ethiopian returnee, shares his journey: "I do not want to anybody to suffer like I did"

Masfine embarked on a five month journey from Ethiopia to South Africa, in the hopes of being able to provide for his family. He travelled through Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique on foot, by boat and hidden inside goods in transport Lorries. But his expectations were cut short at the last border. After a half year imprisonment in Mozambique, Masfine and 52 other Ethiopians were aided by the EU-IOM Joint Initiative for Migrant Protection and Reintegration. Now, returnees, they share their journey.

Programmes in the region

The overall objective of the action is to support the sustainable reintegration of Ethiopian returnees from Europe and ultimately contribute to the development of a National Reintegration System for Ethiopia, and to provide ARRA with the necessary financial, human and technical resources to enhance.
