CRRF DIRECT - Displacement responses through regional cooperation and technical exchange

This action will support the implementation of the objectives of the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework (CRRF) in relation to displacement from the Great Lakes region, which affects the region itself as well as the wider Horn of Africa.

In October 2021, a top-up of €4 million to this action was approved to support UNHCR operations for the voluntary return and reintegration of Burundian refugees currently settled in Rwanda, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo. This addition will expand the current regional Common Refugee Response Framework (CRRF) action and, with support to an NGO consortium, it will further respond to the immediate needs of returnees and host communities.

Main objectives

The overall objective of the action is to increase the safety and well-being of displaced populations and their host communities and reduce inequalities between these groups. The two specific objectives are: 1) for displacement related policies to be more inclusive, effective and sustainable as a result of learning from other regional experiences on development responses to forced displacement and 2) to reduce the negative socio-economic impact of new and recurrent displacement.
